For a truly fabulous view you take the short and pleasant walk up to Orrest Head.  From the top of Windermere Town you can see the beginning of the route up to Orrest head.  The route begins as a narrow road rising up out of the town before passing through some lovely woodland and eventually opening out at the top.  There are some convenient benches to sit down and relax while you take in the view.

You can see a lot of well known Lake District fells and if you want to know what you are looking at there is a profile map engraved into a stone plinth which enables you to easily identify some of the peaks you can see in the distance.
